The Uchiha Sharingan is symbolized by the mitsu-domoe. Also known as the fire-wheel/interlocked flames,
this symbol is similar to the Taoist symbol of yin yang, representing the interdependence of heaven, earth and
the union of heaven-and-earth.

The mitsu-domoe is common in Japanese culture. They can be found on taiko drums, at the roofs of temples and shrines, martial arts dojos, and are even used as family crest. The symbol is specially regarded by the City of Okinawa, where a story tells of the sacrifice of three Okinawans/Ryukyuans who were boiled to death - thus, the swirling pattern.
In this theory, however, the mitsu-domoe will be particularly identified with the Shinto Trinity.
From the Japanese creation myth, the god Izanagi ascended from the underworld where his wife Izanami is forever trapped. He underwent purification by washing himself and brought forth the creation of other gods. The three kami (god) of utmost significance were created after he washed his face:
Amaterasu, the sun goddess and ruler of the heavens – born from the left eye;
Tsukuyomi, the moon god and ruler of the night - born from the right eye;
Susanoo, the storm god and ruler of the seas – born from the nose.

• Amaterasu no Mikoto, goddess of the Sun and ruler of the Heavens •
The feast of Amaterasu is celebrated twice in Japan. The first celebration is held every 17th of July – 6 days prior to Sasuke's birthday (23 July).
The myth tells the story of the rivalry between Amaterasu and her brother Susanoo, god of storms and ruler of the seas. At one time, a heated fit by Susanoo lead to the death of one of Amaterasu's attendants. This action drove Amaterasu to the cave Iwayado, obscuring light and leaving the world in darkness. Other gods begged her to come out but failed; and then , the goddess Ama-no-Uzume decided to dance which delighted the gods so and piqued the curiosity of Amaterasu. She took a peek out of the cave and saw the light reflected from Yata no Kagami that was hung on a tree with Yasakani no Magatama and thought how beautiful her light was. Henceforth, Amaterasu has once again illuminated the world.

This event, Amaterasu's coming out of the cave, is celebrated every 21st of December – 6 days prior to Hinata's birthday (27 December).
According to tradition, the Ama-no-Iwato shrine in Takachiho in Miyazaki Prefecture is said to be the location of Iwayado, the cave where Amaterasu hid.

Miyazaki Prefecture is formerly known as Hyuga Province.
Itachi Uchiha as Amaterasu no Mikoto

3 Amaterasu, from inside the cave, saw her reflection on Yata no Kagami, hung on a tree outside. |
3 Figurative Presumption: Yata no Kagami is Shisui Uchiha's eye. Upon the activation of Amaterasu, the crow with Shisui’s left eye implanted in the crow counter attacks with koto amatsukami. Shisui’s strongest genjutsu was arranged by Itachi to give the command “protect Konoha” when confronted by his own Mangekyou Sharingan.
Initially for use against Sasuke (i.e. should he implant Itachi’s eyes and threatens Konoha in the future) the jutsu was used on the revived Itachi instead. *Shisui is the son of one Kagami Uchiha (literally, mirror). |
4 Yata no Kagami was hung together with Yasakani no Magatama. |
4 The crow with Shisui's left eye was the power given by Itachi to Naruto. Naruto, in Nine-Tails Chakra and Tailed Beast Modes, wears a necklace of jewels akin to Yasakani no Magatama. |
7 Amaterasu gave her grandson, Ninigi no Mikoto, the Three Sacred Treasures and sent him from the heavens to pacify Japan. |
7 Itachi gave Naruto the crow with Shisui's left eye. *Naruto as Ninigi no Mikoto may be read on The Children of The Prophecy. |
8 Amaterasu has a jungle crow pet named Yatagarasu. Yatagarasu is usually depicted in art to have three legs but no record of this has been said in the Japanese Records of Ancient Matters. |
8 In genjutsu, Itachi is able to transform into a flock of crows. |
• Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, god of the Moon and ruler of the Night •
Tsukuyomi was once sent by Amaterasu as her representative in a feast hosted by the food goddess, Uke Mochi. But when Tsukuyomi found out that the food were prepared by spitting out fish and excreting game, he was so disgusted he killed Uke Mochi instead.
Obito Uchiha as Tsukuyomi
Taking after Madara, Obito conceptualized the Moon's Eye Plan, which involves using himself as jinchuuriki of the ten-tailed demon to activate an infinite Tsukuyomi genjutsu and create a world without conflict.
In the event of Rin's death, Obito lost control and attacked the Kirigakure nin.
A line in the Japanese release of the chapter seemingly referred to him as the moon:
月の涙が。。。降る。
In the end, Obito metaphorically decided that he was in hell: 地獄にいる。
Tsukuyomi (literally, 月読) has a pun. When written as 月黄泉, it can mean moon (月) of hell (黄泉, yomi).

• Susanoo no Mikoto, god of Storms and ruler of the Seas •
Susanoo had a strong rivalry against Amaterasu. One day, he want on a rampage which ended in Amaterasu hiding in a cave and Susanoo banished from the heavens. Upon his descent to Izumo (now part of Shimane Prefecture),
he met a weeping couple. The old couple explained that they have
eight daughters, seven of which have been devoured by Yamato no
Orochi, and that the eighth princess, Kushinada-hime, is next.

After realizing the couple's relation to Amaterasu, Susanoo offered assistance and agreed to kill Orochi in exchange for Kushinada-hime's hand in marriage. With the aid of sake, Susanoo decapitated the many heads of Orochi. From one of his tails, Susanoo obtained a sword, later known as the Kusanagi . This sword was later offered to Amaterasu as gift of reconciliation.

13 Susanoo used Totsuka no Tsurugi to slay Yamata no Orochi. It was the same sword used by Izanagi against Kagu-tsuchi, the god of fire, after he burned his own mother, Izanami, during his birth. |
13 Totsuka no Tsurugi and Yata no Kagami appeared as weapons of Itachi's Susanoo. While Sasuke now has Itachi's eyes, it is unknown if the weapons were passed to him as well. On the other hand, Sasuke uses the technique, Enton: Kagutsuchi, which exercises shape transformation to Amaterasu. |
14 Susanoo obtained Kusanagi no Tsurugi from one of the tails of Yamata no Orochi. He also has bow, arrows and a koto (13-stringed instrument). |
14 Sasuke himself used the bow and arrows in his youth, and obtained the Kusanagi from Orochimaru. Similarly, his Susanoo bears two swords, a bow and arrows as weapons. |

18 Neji died protecting Hinata (and Naruto) from Jūbi, the Ten-Tailed Beast. Generally, the Hyūga may be associated to eight. Hak (八) in Hakke (八卦) means eight. Hinata is consistent to this, even as a member of Team 8.
Neji, on the other hand, may also be associated to seven. One of the more notable training Neji did with his Byakugan was the counting of birds from a distance. There were eight birds but because of his blind spot, he was only able to count seven.
*Neji had continuously used the metaphor of birds and freedom of flight when he referred to himself and his fate. |
19 Kushinada-hime is the eighth and last daughter. |
19 Hinata is the daughter of the Main House of the Hyuga Clan, a noble family whose fighting style may likely be based on Baguazhang, literally, eight trigram palm. Hak (八) in Hakke (八卦) means eight. Hinata, along with Kiba Inuzuka and Shino Aburame under the tutelage of Kurenai Yuuhi compose genin Team Eight. In the longest novel in classic Japanese literature, Nansou Satomi Hakkenden by Kyokutei Bakin, one of the eight dog warrior heroes is named Shino-Moritaka Inuzuka (see name similarities with Hinata's teammates). The Hunt for Itachi Arc Hinata was part of the eight-man team, consisted of Teams 7 and 8 with Yamato and Kakashi leading them, respectively. The 4th Shinobi War When Hinata struggled against clones of White Zetsu, people who came to her aid may all be associated to eight: *Naruto, who has the eight sign seal to access the chakra of Kurama sealed within him. Also, Hinata herself tried to protect Naruto when Pain invaded Konoha, where Hinata was stabbed and Naruto transformed into an eight-tailed beast.

The Yamata no Orochi Ambiguity
Orochimaru and Kabuto would have been appropriate as Yamata no Orochi except recently, both have also been implied to have changed from their previous selves (?). In mythology, Yamata no Orochi have devoured seven out of eight princesses. Based on 18, the seventh princess may parallel Neji to an extent. |
